A Special Taskforce Committee, in collaboration with the Strike Force Government House Jalingo, has intercepted seven trucks loaded with a suspicious substance believed to be florides in Taraba. The trucks were apprehended along the Anyim Wukari road. The Commander of the Strike Force, DSP Jamu Emmanuel, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with the Chairman of the special taskforce. The precious stones were reportedly coming from a notorious mining site in Akwana, Wukari Local Government Area. Prior to the arrest, there was intelligence that heavy arms were being planted in Akwana to prevent the government from stopping illegal mining. The owners of the trucks, who are from Port Harcourt and Enugu, were aware of the executive order suspending mining activities in the state but chose to ignore it. The drivers of the trucks managed to escape while in Wukari, forcing the authorities to hire new drivers to transport the vehicles to Jalingo, the state capital.
