Akwa Ibom State Government Joins Forces with NSCDC to Combat Oil Bunkering and Illegal Mining

The Akwa Ibom State government has partnered with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) to tackle the issues of oil bunkering and illegal mining in the state. The Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong, expressed the government’s commitment during a visit by NSCDC officials. Ememobong emphasized that these activities not only harm the economy but also pose risks to the environment and public health. He highlighted the devastating impact on the environment, including the destruction of farmlands and water pollution. Ememobong praised the efforts of the NSCDC in securing the environment and suggested a non-violent approach to address the problem, such as rehabilitating the youth and linking them to the oil sector. The NSCDC commandant, Eluwade M. Eluyemi, commended the state government and pledged to enhance security in Akwa Ibom. The NSCDC also provides services such as licensing private security agencies and training them. The Permanent Secretary, Akparawa James Edet, expressed gratitude to the NSCDC officials and assured them of a strong partnership with the state government.
