Agriculture and crowdfunding will take center stage at the 6th Nigerian Diaspora Investment Summit, which is set to unfold from November 13 to 15. Nigerian Diasporans, who contributed a staggering $19.9 billion in remittances in 2021, will delve into these topics during the summit. Interestingly, their remittances surpassed the country’s earnings from Foreign Direct Investment in the same year. The summit will feature a special session led by renowned non-profit organization Heifer International, focusing on investment opportunities and trends in the Agribusiness sector. Heifer Nigeria’s initiative, Naija Unlock, aims to enhance Nigeria’s food self-sufficiency by supporting smallholder farmers in various value chains. The emphasis on agriculture aligns with the African Development Bank’s projection that Africa’s food and agribusiness will be valued at $11 trillion by 2030. The summit will also include a crowdfunding session moderated by the UK-based Africa Foundation for Development (AFFORD), providing insights on maximizing crowdfunding for startup fundraising. With 3,000 physical and virtual participants, the event will serve as a platform for networking, business deals, and collaboration. The focus sectors for NDIS 6 in 2023 include agribusiness, technology, education, healthcare, real estate, infrastructure, creative and entertainment, energy, mining, and manufacturing. NDIS has a track record of success, facilitating business connections, social impact, and support for deserving NGOs. Notable beneficiaries include Opalson Nigeria Limited, Nairaxi, Surejobz App, iSTEMLabs Africa, and KudiMata. State governments such as Borno, Nasarawa, and Ondo have also leveraged the summit to showcase investment opportunities and attract investors. NDIS 2023 aims to build on the achievements of previous summits and foster new pathways for national development through Diaspora investment in the Nigerian economy.
