NEITI Collaborates with International Community to Promote Transparency in Extractive Sector

The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) is reaching out to the international community to enhance its efforts in promoting transparency in the extractive sector. NEITI’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Ogbonnaya Orji, recently met with prominent diplomatic missions in Nigeria, who expressed their support and willingness to assist NEITI in various ways. The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Nigeria, Mr. Pieter Leenknegt, the High Commissioner of Canada, Mr. James Christoff, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Australian High Commission, Ms. Leann Johnston, all praised NEITI’s work and Nigeria’s commitment to the global Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). They highlighted the importance of NEITI’s reports and activities in the extractive sector and expressed their interest in collaborating with NEITI. The ambassadors also acknowledged the potential for investment in Nigeria’s oil, gas, and mining sectors, particularly in the solid minerals sector. They emphasized the need for reliable information and data, which NEITI can provide, to support informed business decisions. The Australian High Commission Chargé d’Affaires, Johnston, also commended Nigeria’s focus on economic diversification and expressed confidence in NEITI’s ability to contribute to this initiative in the extractive industries.
