The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) is partnering with the international community to enhance transparency in the extractive sector. NEITI’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Ogbonnaya Orji, recently met with prominent diplomatic missions in Nigeria who pledged their support and readiness to assist NEITI in technical assistance, governance reforms, and involvement in Nigeria’s oil, gas, and mining sectors. The diplomatic missions include the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Nigeria, Mr. Pieter Leenknegt, the High Commissioner of Canada, Mr. James Christoff, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the Australian High Commission, Ms. Leann Johnston. These ambassadors have been closely following NEITI’s reports and activities in the extractive sector and have commended Nigeria’s commitment to implementing the global Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). They also expressed their interest in collaborating with NEITI to obtain reliable information and data for potential investments. NEITI’s recently released 2021 Oil, Gas, and Solid Minerals Industry Reports have received praise for their quality and depth. The High Commissioner of Canada, Mr. Christoff, specifically highlighted the solid minerals sector as an area of special interest to Canada. The Australian High Commission Chargé d’Affaires, Ms. Johnston, welcomed Nigeria’s economic diversification policy and expressed confidence in NEITI’s ability to support this initiative with reliable information and data in the extractive industries.
