The Nigerian Mining Cadastre Office (NMCO) has seen an increase in applications for mineral titles since the launch of its new online platform, the Electronic Mining Cadastre System (eMC+). According to Engr Simon O. Nkom, the director-general of NMCO, 40% of the applications received since the introduction of eMC+ have been submitted online. This online platform has attracted more investors, fulfilling its purpose. To ensure effective use of the new technology, the NMCO organized a retreat for its workers, focusing on attitude transformation for improved productivity. The retreat aimed to reposition the mining cadastre and train staff on the operations of the digital system. The eMC+ is expected to contribute to curbing illegal mining by providing quicker and more transparent administration of mineral titles. The director of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission emphasized the importance of utilizing the eMC+ to create a corrupt-free environment and enhance service delivery. The chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission also stressed the need for good work ethic and integrity among the staff for excellent service delivery.
