Technology is crucial in transforming and revitalizing the mining sector to reach its full potential, according to Dr. Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development. In a meeting with Mr. Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Alake highlighted the importance of technology in enhancing the sector’s contribution to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). He emphasized the need for technology in areas such as scientific geo-data generation, security challenges, and other aspects of the mining value chain. Alake also mentioned the integration of technology into the security architecture of the sector. The collaboration between the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation aims to ensure that the mining industry benefits from technological innovations. Nnaji expressed the significance of partnership in keeping the Minister of Solid Minerals Development informed about activities in the mining sector. He discussed the use of satellite technology to monitor mining licenses and detect illegal mining activities. The goal is to align with the Renewed Hope agenda.
