Benue State is hopeful of getting a share of the revenue from mineral deposits. Governor Hyacinth Alia is determined to make a strong case for the state to be included in the revenue-sharing formula. He’s not happy that despite the state’s rich mineral deposits, it’s not getting the attention it deserves. The governor is confident that the reports on illegal mining, logging, and roadblocks will help change this and open up economic opportunities for the people. He’s promised to carefully study the reports and implement the recommendations. The coordinator of the committees, Col. Fidelis Chileh, is urging the federal government to consider Benue for the revenue share and to recruit forest guards to protect the environment. The chairmen of the task forces have also made recommendations to address illegal logging and mining, including the establishment of a Forestry commission and training for revenue collectors.
