The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Oladele Alake, has highlighted the importance of technology in cleaning up and revitalizing the mining sector. He believes that technology can greatly enhance productivity and contribute significantly to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Dr. Alake expressed these views during a meeting with the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Uche Nnaji, in Abuja. He emphasized the need for technology in areas such as scientific data generation, addressing security challenges, and improving the overall mining process. Dr. Alake also mentioned the ongoing efforts to enhance the security architecture of the sector by incorporating advanced technology. He expressed his desire to collaborate with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation to ensure that the solid minerals ministry benefits from the latest innovations. Mr. Nnaji, in response, acknowledged the importance of partnership and highlighted the use of satellite technology to monitor mining activities and detect illegal mining. He emphasized the need to align with the Renewed Hope agenda.
