The Role of Technology in Transforming the Mining Sector

Technology is set to play a crucial role in sanitising and revitalising the mining sector, according to Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake. He highlighted the importance of technology in improving productivity and making a significant contribution to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Uche Nnaji, also emphasized the need for partnership and innovation to support the solid minerals ministry. He mentioned the use of satellite technology to monitor mining activities and address security challenges. This aligns with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The Federal Government has been urged to focus on promoting global trade beyond oil and gas to accelerate development.
