This week, the National Assembly is gearing up for some serious action. After wrapping up work on the 2023 Supplementary Budget, they’re diving into a bunch of important stuff. First up, the House of Representatives will be looking at the reports of the Ad-hoc Committee on Legislative Agenda and the Ad-hoc Committee on the Review of Standing Orders. These reports were supposed to be discussed last week, but got pushed back because of the budget hustle.
They’ve also got a stack of bills to consider, like setting up the Institute of Economists of Nigeria, making changes to the Public Procurement Act, and regulating the practice of broadcasting and business administration. Plus, there’s talk of establishing a Chartered Institute of Digital Forensics to keep things in check.
But wait, there’s more! They’ll be taking a closer look at Corporate Social Responsibility, nursing and midwifery laws, and the establishment of a Federal College of Science and Health Technology in Enugu State.
When it comes to infrastructure, they’re eyeing the sorry state of some federal roads, especially the Gombe–Dukku–Darazo Road, Onitsha–Aba–Nnewi Ozubulu–Okija Road, and the Abak–Ekparakwa–Ete–Ikot Abasi Federal Road. And let’s not forget the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway and the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway – they’re on the list too.
The House is also turning its attention to some pressing issues like drug abuse, illegal mining, and the privatisation of the Osogbo Steel Rolling Mills. And to tackle the big problem of insecurity, they’re revisiting the reports of the 9th House of Representatives Special Committee on Security.
Last but not least, they’ll be discussing the issuance of certificates of occupancy to house owners in Mass Housing Scheme Estates and whatever else comes their way. It’s going to be a busy week at the National Assembly, that’s for sure!
