The Federal Government is taking big steps to get the salt and kaolin production going on a large scale. They’ve put together a 10-person team to make it happen. This is all part of the government’s plan to mix things up and make the economy more diverse by focusing on solid minerals. The Head of Press and Public Relations, Alaba Balogun, said that the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development/ Steel Development, Dr Mary Ogbe, is all about exploring and using salt and kaolin to help the country grow. They want to use more of these minerals at home and sell them abroad, which will create jobs and give the economy a boost.
The 10-person team has a big job to do. They need to find out where the salt and kaolin are in Nigeria, how many licenses have been given to mine these minerals, and how much it will cost to find and use them. They also have to come up with a plan to build salt and kaolin processing plants in Nigeria, and they have to do it quickly. They’ve got 15 days to get their report ready, so they’re working fast.
The team is led by Prof. Zachaeus Opafunsho, who is the Director-General/CEO of the Council for Mining Engineers and Geoscientists of Nigeria. The Secretary of the team is Mrs. Salamatu Umar. They’ve got their work cut out for them, but they’re ready to roll up their sleeves and get it done!
