So, there’s some big news in the solid minerals sector! The African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development (Centre LSD) and the Ministry of Solid Mineral Development (MSMD) have teamed up to create new guidelines for Community Development Agreements (CDA). This is all about boosting the solid minerals sector and attracting more investment to the country. Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, mentioned that communities are getting more vocal about their benefits, and mining companies are expecting more from their partnerships with these communities. They’re also thinking about how to keep their social licenses to operate and get support from the communities. The idea is to use these Community Development Agreements to define and strengthen these relationships. The goal is to improve the connections between the companies, the communities, the government, and other stakeholders, and to make sure that everyone benefits from mining projects. The Executive Director of Centre LSD, Mr. Monday Osasah, explained that their focus is on training people in leadership development to boost the economy. They’re all about supporting strategic planning and natural resource governance. This is a big step forward for the solid minerals sector, and it’s great to see these efforts to make sure everyone benefits from mining projects!
