Bridging the Digital Divide: Intelsat and AMN’s Impact in Rural Africa

Hey, check this out! Intelsat and Africa Mobile Networks (AMN) have been doing some amazing work in rural Africa. Since 2018, they’ve set up over 3,000 satellite antennas in several African countries, bringing telecommunication services to more than 8 million people. That’s huge! AMN’s biggest network is in Nigeria, where they’ve got over 1,350 sites. And get this, they’ve added more than 450 sites since June 2023, reaching over 3.5 million people in Nigerian communities that were previously unconnected. How cool is that? Philippe Gillet, SVP of Global Sales for Networks and Media at Intelsat, said they’re committed to bridging the digital divide and making a real impact. They’re planning to expand to Madagascar, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, with over 1,340 rural base stations in the pipeline. AMN is all about connecting communities and making cell services available in areas where it wasn’t economically viable before. They’re using satellite technology to make it happen. Mike Darcy, CEO of AMN, is thrilled about the partnership with Intelsat and the impact they’ve made, providing essential telecommunication services to 8 million people across Africa. This is some awesome stuff happening in Africa!
