The Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development are teaming up to secure mining fields across the country. This partnership aims to boost the mining sector’s contribution to the economy and increase government revenue. During a recent visit, Defence Minister Alhaji Mohammed Badaru and Minister of State Defence Alhaji Bello Matawalle assured the public of their commitment to providing security in mining areas. Alhaji Badaru emphasized the importance of securing the mining sector to generate much-needed foreign currency and revitalize the economy. He also expressed support for the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development’s plan to establish a mining police, affirming that the military would assist in clearing the territory to ensure safety. Dr. Oladele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, echoed the need to secure the mineral sector for the benefit of both local and foreign operators. He highlighted the collaboration with the Ministry of Defence and other security agencies to strengthen the security architecture. This partnership is a significant step towards creating a safe and conducive environment for mining operations, ultimately maximising the country’s natural resources.
