The Return of ‘Wura’: Season 2 Premieres Soon!

Get ready for the return of the much-awaited second season of the Showmax original telenovela, ‘Wura’! It’s all set to premiere on Monday, December 4, and you can catch four new episodes every week from Monday to Thursday. After the huge success of the first season, the telenovela is back with more drama, suspense, and scandalous moments.

In the trailer for Season two, Fola is trying to make amends with Dimeji and Paulina, but it looks like Paulina is not ready to forgive him, even though Dimeji is trying to reason with her. Meanwhile, Kanyin is going to extreme lengths to end Wura, and this time, she might have gone too far as Wura has evidence that could put her away for good.

Wura is the Nigerian version of the hit South African telenovela, ‘The River’, which was nominated for ‘Best Telenovela’ at the international Emmy Awards. The story revolves around the lives of characters in Iperindo, a small community in Osun State, where the discovery of gold has both united and divided them. The protagonist, Wura-Amoo Adeleke, is a complex character – a devoted wife and mother on one side, and a ruthless CEO of ‘Frontline Gold Mine’ on the other. Her relentless pursuit of success knows no bounds, making her the ultimate iron lady.

The first season of ‘Wura’ captured the hearts of audiences as Showmax’s first and longest-running Nigerian telenovela. The gripping episodes earned lead actress Scarlet Gomez a nomination for ‘Best Actress in a Drama, Movie, or TV Series’ at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCAs) and at the 17th edition of The Future Awards Africa Awards.

Rogers Ofime, the executive producer of the upcoming season, promises a rich tapestry of character development and intense situations for the major characters. The ensemble cast of ‘Wura’ includes Nollywood veterans and rising stars, with Scarlet Gomez in the lead role, Yomi Fash-Lanso as Anthony Amoo-Adeleke, and Carol King as Grace Adeleke.

Dr Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice Nigeria, expressed delight at the overwhelming love and appreciation for ‘Wura’. The upcoming season promises even more twists and turns, delving deeper into the captivating world of gold mining.

Season one began with Pa-Kuti’s discovery of gold, which he entrusted only to Wura. However, Wura’s thirst for power led her to commit a murder, and as the season progressed, she continued to eliminate anyone who posed a threat to her.

As we gear up for the second season, the burning question is whether Wura will continue her winning streak or if her luck will eventually run out. Will her reign persist, or will justice catch up with her? ‘Wura’ Season 2 is set to be an even greater rollercoaster of emotions, reaffirming Showmax’s commitment to bringing Nigerian stories to the screen and expanding its library of original content.

Don’t miss the premiere of ‘Wura’ Season 2 exclusively on Showmax on Monday, 4 December 2023, with four new episodes every week from Monday to Thursday.
