guess what? Engineers have come up with a cool new competition to boost the economy! The Nigerian Academy of Engineering is behind this awesome idea, and they’re inviting all Nigerians and those in the diaspora to join in. The goal is to promote infrastructure and technological development in the country by scaling up innovations and getting them in front of investors. How cool is that?
The President of NAEng, Prof. Peter Onwualu, spilled the beans to journalists in Lagos recently. He mentioned that lots of Nigerians have great ideas that need to be taken to the next level. And when these ideas are turned into real products, they’ll help the country’s economy by reducing reliance on foreign goods and boosting the nation’s gross domestic product. It’s all about moving from a consuming to a production-oriented economy, so Nigeria can show off at the global table. Go Nigeria!
The competition is open to all Nigerian engineers, scientists, technologists, technicians, craftsmen, and other professionals involved in engineering creativity. And the prizes for the best concepts are pretty sweet – cash, public recognition, promotion to investors, certificates, and plaques. It’s like a big pat on the back for all the hard work!
Dr. Chukukeluo Chukwuogo, the Chairman of the innovation competition, is super excited about the whole thing. He’s all about identifying, encouraging, and rewarding innovative works in science, engineering, and technology that solve societal problems in Nigeria and help develop the economy. The competition covers a wide range of areas, from information communications technology to climate change and manufacturing. It’s like a big playground for creative minds!
And get this – the competition is going to be an annual event! Submissions will be in two stages, starting with the submission of concept notes of innovations. The deadline for this stage is November 27 this year. The concept notes should describe the innovation, the problems it solves, the benefits, and the engineering processes involved. It’s all about showcasing the best and brightest ideas that can make a real impact on Nigeria’s development.
The Honourary Secretary of NAEng, Christiana Adelowo, made it clear that the concepts will be screened for innovation, engineering content, originality, and impact on national development. It’s like a talent show for engineers, and the best ideas get the spotlight! How awesome is that?
