So, get this – Eni, the Italian company, has put a pause on their whole arbitration thing with Nigeria over an oilfield dispute. They’re taking a breather to chat with the Nigerian government about changing their licence from just looking for oil to actually mining it. And guess where they’re doing this? At the World Bank’s dispute settlement body! Eni’s spokesperson spilled the beans, saying they’re hitting the pause button to have a good old chinwag with the Nigerian government about what needs to happen to make this licence change a reality. And get this – Nigeria has dropped a whopping $1.1 billion in civil claims against Eni for some dodgy business in the OPL 245 deal. Looks like things are heating up!
