Hey there folks,

I wanted to share some news from the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development. They’ve recently revoked a whopping 1,633 mineral titles from mining companies that didn’t play by the rules. The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, made the announcement during a press briefing in Abuja. Apparently, these companies failed to cough up the mandatory annual service fees of N1,500 per cadastral unit, which led to the revocation of their licenses.

The Mining Cadastre Office gave the nod to revoke 1,633 mineral titles across different categories, including Exploration Licence, Quarry Licence, Small Scale Mining Licence, and Mining Lease. And get this: 536 were Exploration Licences, 279 were Quarry Licences, 787 were Small Scale Mining Licences, and 31 were Mining Leases.

Despite getting a 30-day written default notice, these companies still didn’t step up to the plate with their payments. So, the government had no choice but to pull the plug on their licenses.

This move is all about making sure these mining companies do right by the government and stick to the rules for mineral exploration and exploitation. It’s all about holding them accountable and maintaining order in the mining sector.

Take care,
Ibrahim Aliyu
