Fatal Accident Involving Tractor-Trolley Used for Illegal Sand Mining
A tragic incident occurred in Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh, resulting in the death of a local revenue department official, Prasann Singh, who was crushed to death by a tractor-trolley used for transporting sand illegally. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested by the police in connection with the incident.
The unfortunate incident took place near Son River in the Gopalpur area when Singh intercepted the tractor-trolley carrying illegally mined sand. Upon attempting to stop the vehicle, the driver callously ran over Singh, leading to his untimely demise. The accused driver, identified as Shubham Vishwakarma, fled the scene with the vehicle but was later apprehended by the authorities.
As per Superintendent of Police Kumar Prateek, Vishwakarma has been charged under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and a thorough investigation is underway. Moreover, the tractor involved in the incident has been seized and its owner has been identified.
District collector Vandana Vaidya disclosed that there have been numerous complaints regarding illegal sand mining in the area, prompting a joint inspection by the revenue, mining departments, and the police. In fact, illegal sand mining activities were detected and confiscated just days before the fatal incident.
The untimely demise of Prasann Singh is a grave reminder of the dangers posed by illegal sand mining activities in the region. The authorities must take stringent measures to curb such unlawful practices and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Arrest of Three Nigerian Nationals in Palghar District for Drug Possession
In a separate incident, three Nigerian nationals were arrested in Maharashtra’s Palghar district for possession of banned drugs worth Rs 55.92 lakh. Acting on a tip-off, the Tulinj police conducted a successful operation and apprehended the individuals from a room in Nalla Sopara area.
The police seized a significant quantity of mephedrone and ganja from the suspects, who have been booked under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The arrested individuals were presented before a local court and have been remanded in police custody.
This recent crackdown on drug-related activities is part of the authorities’ ongoing efforts to combat the proliferation of illegal substances in the region.
