NSCDC Apprehends 42 Suspected Criminals in Borno, Nigeria
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Borno State has apprehended a total of 42 individuals suspected of engaging in various criminal offences. Commandant Musa Boyi disclosed this during a public parade of the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Maiduguri on Saturday.
According to Mr. Boyi, majority of the suspects, who are youths, were arrested for participating in activities that threaten the peace and security of the state. These activities encompass vandalism, illegal sale of scrap metals (known as ‘ajaokuta’), employment fraud, unauthorized mining, forgery, and impersonation.
Of the detained individuals, fourteen were implicated in the vandalism of critical national infrastructure and illegal trading of prohibited scrap metal, while four were intercepted while transporting a truckload of scrap iron to a neighbouring state.
Furthermore, seven suspects were also paraded for their alleged involvement in forging token cards for the distribution of palliatives by the state government. Despite the Governor’s directive to prohibit all ‘ajaokuta’ businesses in Borno State, some individuals continued to defy this directive, thereby jeopardising the state’s security.
Moreover, sixteen individuals were apprehended for engaging in gang-related activities that led to the intimidation and harassment of innocent members of the public. The command also confiscated dangerous weapons such as knives and daggers from the suspects.
Commandant Boyi stressed the NSCDC’s dedication to upholding the law and ensuring that the arrested individuals are prosecuted in accordance with due process. He also cautioned officers within the command against accepting bribes from individuals seeking employment within the NSCDC, warning that any form of corruption will be met with severe repercussions.
In conclusion, the collaborative effort of the NSCDC in identifying and apprehending individuals engaged in criminal activities is essential to maintaining peace and security in Borno State. The public can support these efforts by reporting any suspicious or illegal activities to the appropriate authorities. Upholding the law and ensuring the safety of all residents remains a top priority for the NSCDC.
