The Appreciation of President Tinubu for the Appointments of Olawande and Asefon Sunday
A recent one-day conference was convened at the TOPRANK Hotels in Abuja, bringing together a forum of former leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). The purpose of the event was to express gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his appointment of Mr. Ayo Olawande as Minister of Youth (State) and Asefon Dayo Sunday as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Student Engagement. Additionally, the forum extended congratulations to Lucky Emenof, the newly elected NANS President.
In a statement issued by the convener, Wole Badmus, and Secretary, Olayinka Dada, the Forum commended President Tinubu for his choices, particularly in the Youth and Student constituencies. They emphasized the importance of appointing individuals who are closely familiar with the challenges faced by the youth in the rapidly evolving digital age. The forum also pledged its support to the newly appointed officials, aiming to provide them with ideas that can positively impact their official responsibilities.
Furthermore, the Forum highlighted the urgent need for reforms in various sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, transportation, petroleum, mining, and security architecture to address the challenges of the modern world. They expressed satisfaction with the interventions made by President Tinubu on behalf of Nigerian students, including the student loan programme and the directive to tertiary institutions not to increase school fees amidst the prevailing economic difficulties faced by parents.
The Forum also emphasized the need for policies aimed at the youth constituency to address the nation’s mounting security challenges and spur economic growth. They urged President Tinubu to empower the youth, promote access to education, and encourage graduates to venture into small and medium-scale businesses to boost economic prosperity.
Regarding the recent outcome of the NANS election, the forum congratulated Com. Lucky Emenofe on his election as President and urged the new executives to diligently pursue pro-student advocacies and programs to benefit the student constituency.
The forum concluded by affirming its commitment to supporting the newly appointed officials and the growth of Nigerian students, highlighting the importance of education in illuminating the world.
This expression of appreciation and support from the former NANS leaders demonstrates both their recognition of the importance of addressing the youth and student constituencies and their eagerness to contribute to the development and progress of Nigeria.
