NSCDC Apprehends 42 Individuals for Various Offences in Borno
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Borno State has detained a total of forty-two individuals for engaging in activities deemed to threaten the peace and security of the state.
In a press briefing held in Maiduguri, Musa Boyi, the state Commandant of the NSCDC, revealed that the suspects, primarily youths, were apprehended for offenses such as vandalism, illegal mining, forgery, and impersonation. Additionally, the suspects were found to be involved in the sale of scrap metals, commonly referred to as “ajaokuta,” and employment scams.
Among the individuals apprehended, fourteen were arrested for the vandalism of critical national assets and participation in the scrap metal trade, which had been prohibited by the Borno State government. Furthermore, Boyi disclosed that the Command intercepted a truck transporting scrap iron from the metropolis to a neighbourly state, leading to the arrest of four individuals, including the driver, for violating state laws.
In response to these activities, the Borno State governor issued a directive to prohibit all “ajaokuta” businesses within the state. Nevertheless, certain individuals disregarded the order, thereby compromising the state’s security. Boyi emphasized that many of the apprehended individuals would face prosecution in accordance with the law.
Moreover, sixteen suspects were detained for engaging in gangsterism and terrorizing innocent members of the public. The Command seized dangerous weapons, such as knives and daggers, from these suspects.
In addition, seven individuals were publicly exposed for fabricating token cards for the distribution of government palliatives. Boyi issued a stern warning to NSCDC personnel, urging them to refrain from accepting money from individuals seeking employment within the Civil Defence. He underscored that severe penalties would be enforced on any personnel found tarnishing the image of the Corps.
The NSCDC remains resolute in its commitment to upholding peace and security within Borno State. Through the diligent efforts of its officers and men, the Corps stands firm in combating criminal activities and upholding the rule of law.
The public exposure of these suspects serves as a reminder of the NSCDC’s steadfast dedication to preserving the peace and security of Borno State. The rigorous enforcement of laws and regulations is imperative for safeguarding the welfare of citizens and ensuring the stability of the state.
As the NSCDC continues its efforts to suppress criminal activities, it is vital for all individuals, including its own personnel, to adhere to the highest ethical standards. By doing so, the Corps can effectively fulfill its mandate of protecting lives and property, promoting national cohesion, and upholding the rule of law.
Safeguarding the peace and security of Borno State requires a collective effort from all stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies and the general public. The NSCDC remains resolute in its commitment to achieving this common goal, and the recent apprehension of these suspects is a testament to its unwavering dedication to upholding the rule of law.
