The Abia State government is currently in the process of establishing economic partnerships with Poland and Bulgaria as part of its strategic efforts to drive state development. Governor Alex Otti has made it clear that Abia is eager to engage in mutually beneficial economic collaborations with both European nations. This announcement follows the recent visits of the Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mrs. Joan Tarnawska, and the Bulgarian Ambassador, Yanko Yardonov, along with their respective delegations.

The Polish delegation has expressed a keen interest in collaborating with Abia in various sectors including agriculture, mining, education, and culture, whilst Bulgaria has shown interest in agriculture, trade, education, and human capital development. Governor Otti has welcomed the interests expressed by both countries and has emphasized the readiness of his government to explore partnerships that would contribute significantly to the growth of the state’s economy.

“We are very open to partnerships that will benefit Abia in key sectors such as agriculture and education. Our aim is to leverage our skilled workforce and explore opportunities for exporting their expertise,” Governor Otti stated during the visit by the Polish delegation.

Mrs. Tarnawska, the Polish Ambassador, has highlighted the untapped potential for cooperation between Poland and Nigeria and expressed her desire to establish closer ties with Nigeria, particularly with Abia State. This is underscored by the Memorandum of Understanding signed last year between Poland and Nigeria, focusing on agriculture and cooperation.

During the visit from the Bulgarian delegation, Governor Otti reiterated his government’s commitment to delivering good governance to the people of Abia. He also noted that the timing of Bulgaria’s interest in collaborating with Abia was opportune and expressed satisfaction with the specific areas of intervention identified by the Bulgarian government.

The Bulgarian Ambassador to Nigeria, Yanko Yardonov, has emphasized the desire to enhance economic and people-to-people exchanges between Bulgaria and Abia, noting the numerous opportunities that the state offers, making it an attractive prospect for collaboration and investment from Bulgaria and private investors.

The state’s initiative to seek economic collaborations with Poland and Bulgaria signifies a significant step towards fostering sustainable development and creating mutually beneficial partnerships. As the government continues to explore these opportunities, the potential for growth and progress in strategic sectors in Abia is promising.

The engagement with Poland and Bulgaria is a testament to Abia’s commitment to expanding its economic horizons and leveraging international partnerships for the overall development of the state. This proactive approach to fostering relationships with European nations demonstrates the government’s dedication to driving economic growth and creating opportunities for the people of Abia.
