Revocation of 1,633 Mining Licenses: Minister Reveals Progress in the Sector

The Honourable Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Oladele Alake, has recently announced the revocation of a total of 1,633 mining licenses as part of the ongoing efforts to curb illegal activities within the mining sector in Nigeria. This announcement was made during the launch of the book “The Beauties of Nigeria” in Abuja, where the Minister also highlighted the successful reduction in illegal activities within the industry.

In representation of the Minister at the event, Aderonke Ogunleye-Bello, emphasised the Ministry’s unwavering commitment towards promoting the advancement and prosperity of the mining sector, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The Minister stated that out of the 2,213 mining title holders, 1,633 defaulting titles have been revoked, while 580 compliant holders have had their licenses reinstated.

Additionally, Dr. Alake also cited the Ministry’s success in attracting foreign investors from China, Mexico, the USA, and the UK, resulting in the establishment of a lithium battery production factory in Nasarawa state. The Minister highlighted the critical role of the mining industry in Nigeria’s economic diversification strategy, emphasizing its potential to enhance socio-economic conditions, boost GDP, create employment opportunities, drive technological advancements, and reduce the nation’s reliance on oil.

The Minister expressed gratitude to Mr. Bonaventure Melah, the author of “The Beauties of Nigeria,” for positively portraying Nigeria’s potential and encouraged collaboration between Nigerian citizens and the government to collectively achieve their aspirations.
