Tantita Security Services Limited, a company that specializes in pipeline surveillance, has issued a report detailing a potentially hazardous situation involving an unidentified vessel engaged in unlawful activities off the coast of Ondo state. The vessel was observed near the Oil Mining Leases 110 and 103 and is suspected of being involved in the theft of crude oil.

According to Tantita Security Services Limited (TSSL), the vessel was spotted moored at an oil well jacket in the area, where it seemed to be loading crude oil. TSSL operatives received intelligence indicating that the vessel was preparing to conduct illegal bunkering activities.

TSSL promptly took action to investigate the situation and determined that the vessel had already commenced the process of loading crude oil upon their arrival at the site. There was also a concern raised regarding the potential collusion between the perpetrators, corrupt individuals within the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, and officials of the Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base in the area.

The company expressed its willingness to collaborate with the Nigerian Navy to apprehend the suspected criminals and prevent further illegal activities in the region. However, their efforts were met with resistance as the Nigerian Navy deployed gunboats to the area, resulting in a confrontation between the navy, soldiers of the Nigerian Army, and TSSL operatives.

Amidst the standoff, TSSL requested support from the NNPCL and the Federal Government to ensure that the circumstances surrounding the vessel and those involved in the illegal activities are thoroughly investigated and addressed.

The situation underscores the ongoing challenges encountered in combating illegal oil-related activities in the region and underscores the significance of cooperation between private companies, law enforcement agencies, and government bodies to effectively tackle such issues.

The events off the coast of Ondo state serve as a poignant reminder of the ongoing battle against illegal bunkering and oil theft, which continues to impact the region. It is imperative that all relevant parties work together to safeguard Nigeria’s oil assets and prevent further criminal activities in the area.
