Exploring New Frontiers: Benue State Enters Partnership with SoundCore Group for Mineral Exploration
The Benue State Government has taken a significant step towards economic development by formalising an agreement with SoundCore Group Nigeria Limited to explore the state’s mineral resources. The objective is to establish a strong economic foundation for the benefit of the people of Benue.
In representation of Governor Hyacinth Alia at the event, Deputy Governor Barrister Sam Ode expressed regret over the failure of past administrations to harness the potential of the mineral sector. He underscored the administration’s dedication to engaging skilled individuals to lead the state’s development agenda. Stressing the need to reduce the country’s reliance on oil, Barrister Sam Ode emphasised the importance of economic diversification, particularly in the domains of agriculture and mining, to secure Nigeria’s future.
SoundCore Group Nigeria Limited was selected as a strategic partner due to its expertise and solid track record. The Deputy Governor conveyed confidence in the partnership, acknowledging its potential to yield positive results for the state. He also expressed gratitude towards SoundCore Group Nigeria Limited for choosing to collaborate with Benue and recognised the partnership’s potential to uplift the lives of the people and alleviate poverty.
The Chief Executive Officer of SoundCore Group Nigeria Limited, Anthony Nwakalor, outlined the organisation’s plans to revitalise the state’s mining sector. These plans include operationalising the Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee and establishing a Solid Minerals Development Company for Benue State. The goal is to reduce the state’s reliance on federal allocations by leveraging its mineral wealth, ultimately contributing to the development of the entire nation.
Benita Shuluwa, the Director General of Benue State Bureau of Entrepreneurship and Wealth Creation, highlighted the Bureau’s role in facilitating the partnership. She stressed SoundCore Group Nigeria Limited’s commitment to collaborating with the state government to formalise and regulate the mining sector, thereby increasing the Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) and curbing illegal mining activities.
The agreement was officially signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Joseph Alakali, the Attorney General of the State, Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Barrister Fidelis Mnyim, on behalf of the Benue State Government, and representatives of SoundCore Group Nigeria Limited.
