Ekiti State to Make Significant Contribution to Solid Minerals Development
Ekiti State is preparing to assume a pivotal role in the advancement of solid minerals, as Dr. Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, accentuated the abundance of natural resources, including solid minerals, in the state. Dr. Alake exuded confidence that Ekiti’s involvement will significantly contribute to the Federal Government’s endeavors to establish solid minerals as a major source of revenue for the nation.
During a meeting with Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, Dr. Dele Alake reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government to engage in collaborative efforts with states to revamp the mining sector, with the objective of maximizing benefits for host communities and generating revenue for the government.
In response, Governor Oyebanji expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for appointing a distinguished indigene of Ekiti as the Minister of Solid Minerals Development. He commended the Minister for advocating for the interests of Ekiti State and underscored the significance of partnering with the federal government for the state’s economic development.
Governor Oyebanji emphasized the necessity for collaboration in order to align with the Minister’s vision for the mining sector. He stressed that it is in the best interest of states to partake in such partnerships, as it presents a mutually beneficial scenario. Furthermore, the Governor reiterated the numerous opportunities available for sub-national entities in the mining sector and urged other states to unite with the ministry, citing the potential for wealth creation, job opportunities, and enhanced security.
On a separate note, the Kwara State University 2023 convocation lecture, delivered by the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, shed light on the evolving nature of job requirements in the Information Age. He cautioned that university degrees may no longer be the sole guarantee of employment, emphasizing the increasing importance of demonstrable skills in securing jobs.
In another development, the Delta House of Assembly passed the 2024 Appropriation Bill of N724.9 billion, demonstrating the government’s commitment to fiscal planning and allocation of resources.
