Unleashing Nigeria’s Creative Potential: A Call to Action for Stakeholders
The Minister of Arts, Culture & Creative Economy, Hon. Hannatu Musawa, has issued a call to action for all stakeholders within the arts and culture industry to lend their support to the new initiatives introduced by the ministry. It is imperative that we steer the direction of the ministry towards a positive trajectory, whilst capitalising on the recent accomplishments of Nigerian musicians and filmmakers.
During her engagement in the ‘Mining Nigeria’s Creative Goldmine’ session at the Entertainment Weekly Lagos event, Musawa underlined the necessity to seize upon the achievements of Nigerian creatives. She appealed for a unified effort amongst stakeholders to establish infrastructure and cultivate a sustainable environment conducive to the growth of arts and creatives.
In her address delivered via Zoom from Abuja, the Minister lauded the impact of the event and acknowledged the global landmarks achieved by the industry. She extolled the resilience and commitment of Nigerian artists and filmmakers, drawing attention to their substantial contribution to the nation’s economy and their influence on the global stage.
In addition, Musawa accentuated Nigeria’s robust creative and cultural relations, citing the successful exportation of music, films and literature. She implored stakeholders to leverage this influence in shaping Nigeria’s narrative on the global stage.
Focussing on the imperative of infrastructure development and a sustainable environment, Musawa accentuated the potential of arts and culture in addressing contemporary challenges, including job creation and economic growth.
Demonstrating her dedication to promoting growth and inclusivity within the entertainment industry, Musawa pledged unequivocal support for infrastructure development, access to funding and diversity within the sector.
Conversations during the panel on ‘Mining Nigeria’s Creative Goldmine’ centred on leveraging recent industry successes and comprehending the development of value chains within the creative sector. Renowned personalities such as Chioma Ude, the founder of Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF); Tolu Ogunlesi, a writer and former Special Assistant to ex-President Buhari on Digital Media; and Titi Ogufere, an author, interior designer, and CEO of Essential Media Group, were featured on the panel, which was moderated by Ken Anyanwu.
