Crackdown on Illegal Mining in Kogi State Leads to 10 Arrests and Impounding of 50 Trucks

The government of Kogi has implemented stringent measures to combat illegal mining in the state, leading to the arrest of 10 individuals and the confiscation of 50 trucks used for coal transport. This operation was conducted by the special task force on smuggling and related crimes in response to Governor Yahaya Bello’s directive to curb illegal mining activities.

Bashiru Gegu, the Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, affirmed the government’s dedication to addressing the issue of illegal mining and prosecuting those who violate the law. Despite prior warnings, some individuals have persisted in illegal mining, causing harm to local communities. Additionally, the chairman of the special task force, Friday Makama, reaffirmed that there will be no leniency for illegal miners in Kogi.
