A Regal Affair: Dignitaries Gather for Soun of Ogbomoso’s Coronation Ceremony
The coronation ceremony of the new Soun of Ogbomoso in Oyo State, Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye, was attended by a distinguished assembly of individuals, including esteemed dignitaries such as the former Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja III, the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun. Also in attendance were traditional rulers, former Minister of Information, Lai Muhammed, former President of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Adebayo Oyero, captains of industry, and clerics from both domestic and international realms.
The ceremonial event unfolded at the Ogbomoso stadium, culminating in the presentation of the scepter of office to the monarch by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde. Affirming Oba Ghandi Olaoye Orumogege 111 as the 21st Soun of Ogbomoso, the Governor exercised his authority as the leader of the state. Oba Olaoye, who previously served as a senior pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in the United States, articulated his unwavering dedication to the local community by unveiling a comprehensive 25-year plan for the advancement and tranquility of Ogbomosholand.
In his formal acceptance speech, Oba Olaoye underscored the significance of delineating a lucid vision for the region’s progress, drawing from the wisdom of Kings as documented in the book of Proverbs. He alluded to his network of relationships, business acumen garnered from successful ventures, and the insights gathered from over three decades of shepherding congregations as integral assets to fulfill his vision.
