Kogi State Crackdown on Illegal Mining Leads to Arrests and Impounded Trucks
The Kogi State government has achieved a significant breakthrough in its endeavours to combat illicit mining within the state through the recent apprehension of ten individuals and the confiscation of 50 trucks. The Commissioner of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Bashiru Gegu, reported that these arrests and seizures were executed by a specialised task force dedicated to eradicating smuggling and associated offences.
Gegu underscored that these measures were a direct response to the prohibition of illicit mining as decreed by the governor. He further asserted that those found culpable of such unlawful activities would undergo legal proceedings.
