In a recent operation conducted by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), two individuals involved in the vandalism of railway infrastructure and 11 illegal miners were apprehended in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, and its environs.

Mr. Olusola Odumosu, the FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, revealed that the railway vandals were apprehended by the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure unit of the command for the intentional destruction of rail tracks and traffic lights in the Wuse Area of the territory. This concerted effort led to the successful arrest of the perpetrators.

Additionally, Odumosu mentioned that, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, 11 suspects engaged in illegal mining activities at Izom, a community situated at the boundary of FCT and Niger State, were also apprehended. These proactive measures underscore the command’s commitment to combat various forms of criminality within the FCT.

He emphasized the significance of these actions as a deterrent to other potential criminals operating within the territory. The mandate is to demonstrate zero tolerance for vandalism and other criminal activities that undermine public infrastructure and critical national assets.

Odumosu underscored the severe economic implications of illegal mining, stating that it not only poses threats to the ecosystem and the well-being of host communities but also results in the loss of billions of naira for the nation. As such, the apprehended suspects are under investigation and will be brought to justice. They are providing valuable information that will help determine their level of culpability and potential involvement with other criminal syndicates known for illegal mining operations within the FCT.

During the parade of the suspects, the commandant issued a stern warning to those involved in the vandalism of critical national assets, illegal mining, one-chance syndicates, scavenging, and kidnapping. He firmly stated that such criminal activities will not be tolerated within the FCT jurisdiction.

Odumosu reiterated the unwavering commitment of the NSCDC to eradicate criminalities within the FCT and assured that continuous efforts will be made to identify and apprehend individuals or groups engaged in activities that undermine the safety and prosperity of the citizens.

It is evident that the NSCDC is resolute in its mission to maintain law and order, protect critical infrastructure, and uphold the well-being of the community. The actions taken against railway vandals and illegal miners serve as a reminder that criminal activities will not be condoned, and those who engage in such acts will face the full force of the law.

In conclusion, the collaborative efforts of the NSCDC and other security agencies demonstrate the commitment to safeguarding the nation’s assets and ensuring a secure environment for all citizens. The message is clear – criminal elements will be apprehended, and justice will prevail.
