In a press release by Mr. Alaba Balogun, the Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations of the Ministry of Solid Mineral Development, Dr. Ogbe emphasized the importance of the solid minerals sector in preparing Nigeria for a smooth transition from the use of fossil fuels and to adopt measures to mitigate climate change.

Dr. Ogbe underscored that Nigeria is depending on the solid mineral and metals sector for its economic prosperity due to the gradual phasing out of fossil fuels with the introduction of electric cars and the world’s shift towards green energy. She emphasized that Nigeria, blessed with energy minerals, must not be left behind in this global shift.

Furthermore, Dr. Ogbe commended the choice of theme for the meeting, “Minerals and Metals Sector: A Panacea for Economic Growth and Diversity,” as she believes it is in alignment with Nigeria’s economic diversification goals, particularly in developing its non-oil sector. She also stressed that the meeting would significantly contribute to President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda for the sector, offering a platform for stakeholders to discuss key issues affecting the sector and chart its advancement.

The Permanent Secretary described the meeting as an important milestone in collective efforts for sustainable development in the minerals and metal sector. She outlined several topics to be discussed during the three-day meeting, including policy reforms, investment opportunities, community engagement, environmental sustainability, and fostering innovation in the sector. These discussions are expected to pave the way for a sustainable development of the minerals and metal sector in Nigeria.

In conclusion, the recognition of the solid minerals sector as a crucial component of Nigeria’s economic growth and diversification is a positive sign for the future of the country’s economy.
