Enhancing Collaboration in Nigeria’s Mining Sector: Minister and Nasarawa State Governor Join Forces

The Ministry of Solid Minerals Development and the Nasarawa State government are preparing to enhance their partnership in the development of mineral resources. Dr. Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, graciously welcomed Abdullahi Sule, the Governor of Nasarawa State, to engage in discussions regarding their collaboration in the mining sector.

During the meeting, Dr. Alake commended Governor Sule for his support in the establishment of a Lithium factory in Nasarawa State. He also highlighted the state’s leading role in partnering with the Nigerian Government for the development of solid minerals.

The Minister acknowledged the Governor’s technical expertise as an engineer and his understanding of the intricacies of the solid minerals sector, which has contributed to his support.

In addition to discussing their collaboration, the Minister addressed the recent Ibadan explosion incident. He emphasised the Ministry’s cautious approach in attributing a specific cause to the explosion, stating that an efficient forensic analysis is required before drawing any conclusions.

Dr. Alake also mentioned the government’s commitment to coordinating security around natural resources, including minerals, forests, and the marine economy. This effort underscores the importance of safeguarding the country’s valuable assets.

Governor Sule expressed his appreciation for the Minister’s efforts in revitalising the mining sector and facilitating the acquisition of gold, tin, and lithium mining licenses for Nasarawa State.

The Governor also highlighted the state’s recent acquisition of three mining licenses, which include areas with gold, lithium, and tin deposits. Additionally, he emphasised the importance of public-private partnerships to ensure efficient management and maximum benefits for the state.

Accompanying Governor Abdullahi Sule were former Governor Tanko Al-Makura, and the Attorney-General of Nasarawa State, Abdulkarim Kana, among others.

The collaboration between the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development and Nasarawa State signals a significant step towards the sustainable development of Nigeria’s mining sector. It underscores the importance of strategic partnerships in leveraging the country’s abundant mineral resources for economic growth and sustainable development.
