Nasarawa State is poised to enter a new phase of development with the recent announcement by the state government regarding the procurement of three mining licences for the extraction of gold, tin, and lithium. The news was revealed by the state governor, Abdullahi Sule, during his visit to the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, in Abuja.
In a statement released by the Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Segun Tomori, Governor Sule’s visit aimed to apprise the minister of the ongoing construction of a large lithium factory and to discuss strategies for securing mining sites and promoting the development of the mining sector in the country.
This significant development follows the solid minerals minister’s commitment to mitigating the negative impacts of mining on the environment. During a meeting with the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, Alake outlined plans to enact legislation ensuring that mining activities in the country adhere to international best practices while minimizing environmental harm.
Governor Sule expressed his appreciation, commending the solid minerals minister for his leadership in rejuvenating the mining sector and for facilitating the acquisition of the gold, tin, and lithium mining licences by Nasarawa State. Drawing on his background in the private sector, the governor underscored the importance of public-private partnerships and equity participation to ensure that the state maximizes the benefits from these ventures.
In response, Minister Alake praised Nasarawa State as a valuable partner in the effort to develop mineral resources not only within the state but across the entire nation. He commended Governor Sule for his steadfast support of the solid minerals sector, lauding the state’s proactive collaboration with the Federal Government to advance solid minerals development.
The statement also highlighted the presence of former Governor Tanko Al-Makura, Attorney-General of Nasarawa State, Abdulkarim Kana, and other dignitaries in Governor Sule’s entourage during the visit, emphasizing the significance of the occasion.
The recent announcement signals the beginning of a promising era for Nasarawa State, as the acquisition of these mining licences lays the groundwork for economic growth and industrial expansion within the state. The renewed emphasis on the mining sector not only augurs well for Nasarawa State but also holds significant potential for contributing to the overall development of the nation.
As the state prepares to embark on this new chapter of progress and growth, all eyes are on Nasarawa as it takes the proactive steps necessary to leverage its natural resources for the betterment of its citizens and the Nigerian economy as a whole.
