President Bola Tinubu Administration Seeks Collaboration with Mining Engineers
Dr. Oladele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, has articulated the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to collaborate closely with local mining engineers in revitalizing the solid minerals sector.
At a recent meeting with the engineers, Dr. Alake commended their invaluable contributions and underscored the significance of pooling resources to execute the roadmap for solid minerals development, ultimately aimed at benefiting the Nigerian populace.
Dr. Alake also delineated plans to invest in solid mineral data, intending to facilitate easier investor engagement in the sector, while harnessing satellite technology and a surveillance task force to combat illicit mining activities. He underscored the pivotal role of the solid minerals sector in addressing climate change concerns, portraying it as a “survival kit” for the country.
Furthermore, Dr. Alake urged the mining engineers to propose innovative ideas that would aid in actualizing the roadmap, with a focus on promoting local content throughout the solid minerals value chain.
In response to the mining engineers’ suggestion to rename the ministry, the minister expounded that such a change would necessitate substantial legal adjustments and institutional recalibrations.
The interaction with the indigenous mining engineers represents a positive stride towards revitalizing the solid minerals sector and harnessing its full potential. Through collaborative efforts, the government and these experts can pave the way for sustainable growth and development in this pivotal industry.
