Nigeria Vows to Tackle Illegal Mining as Government Increases Efforts

Furthermore, these activities have involved foreign nationals and are suspected to be linked to the financing of terrorism and banditry in certain areas.

To combat these illegal activities, the government has put in place measures such as the suspension of mining activities in certain regions. Despite these efforts, illegal mining operations have continued, exacerbating security concerns in the affected areas.

The consequences of these illegal activities have been devastating, resulting in numerous casualties and destruction of properties due to explosions caused by illegal mining operations. In addition to this, there is a focus on inter-agency collaboration, evidenced by the recent inauguration of a squad tasked with protecting mining sites across the country, and plans to establish a Nigerian Mining Corporation driven by the private sector, the government, and the Nigerian public.
