Nigeria Mining Cadastral Office Director-General Receives NANS Outstanding Leadership Award

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has honoured Engr Obadiah Simon Nkom, the Director-General of the Nigeria Mining Cadastral Office (MCO), with the outstanding leadership award for his significant contributions to the growth and development of the Nigerian Mining sector. The award ceremony, held in Abuja, saw Nkom extend his gratitude to the MCO management and staff for their commitment to advancing the sector and contributing to the overall economy.

In addition to expressing appreciation, Nkom commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his concern for the welfare of Nigerian students. He emphasized the importance of the mining sector’s development in creating employment opportunities, particularly for the youth population.

Nkom also highlighted the impressive revenue performance of the MCO, surpassing previous years’ returns, even during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. He underscored the significance of achieving Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) targets and highlighted the MCO’s recent recognition for digital innovation, along with their unwavering commitment to the country’s development.

Furthermore, Nkom acknowledged the legal obstacles and court actions encountered by the MCO but proudly disclosed their 100% litigation success rate. He affirmed that their approach of executing duties with integrity and precision has been fundamental to their accomplishments.

Moreover, Nkom emphasized that the current accolade has placed greater responsibilities on his shoulders, with heightened expectations and an increased workload. He expressed his readiness to embark on the journey alongside NANS, the apex body of Nigerian students, in jointly contributing to the country’s economic growth.

In response, the Executive National Secretary General of NANS, Usman Baba Kaikai, expressed their admiration for the MCO’s significant contributions to the nation’s economic progress. Kaikai highlighted the purpose of the award, which was to affirm their backing of the MCO’s leadership, management, and staff for their positive impact.

Kaikai lauded the MCO’s commitment to eradicating corruption and promoting transparency and accountability within the institution. He assured Nkom that the students are closely observing his actions and would provide recognition for his contributions during evaluations.

The ceremony concluded with Kaikai reaffirming NANS’ unwavering support for Nkom and encouraged him to continue his efforts in promoting the economic well-being of Nigeria through the Mining Cadastre Office.
