Borno State Governor Appoints New Director-General for State Mining Agency

In an official statement released in Maiduguri, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has announced the appointment of Malam Aminu Chamalwa as the Director-General of the newly established Borno State Mining Agency (BOSMA). The announcement was conveyed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar.

Chamalwa’s appointment, effective immediately, is a result of his extensive experience and expertise in the field of geology, coupled with 35 years of commendable service in the civil sector.

With his background and wealth of experience, Chamalwa, a native of Biu Local Government Area, has been entrusted with the responsibility of revitalising the mining sector in Borno State. Governor Zulum has expressed his confidence in Chamalwa’s ability to fulfil the duties of his new role and has urged him to work diligently in achieving this aim.

Prior to his appointment as the DG of BOSMA, Chamalwa served as the Deputy Director (Hydrology) at the Borno Ministry of Water Resources from 2009 to 2018. More recently, he held the position of Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics at the same ministry. His educational background includes a degree in Geology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, which he attained in 1996. Additionally, Chamalwa is a member of both the National Association of Hydrogeologists (MNAH) and the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS).

It is relevant to note that Borno State is rich in a variety of mineral resources including Feldspar, Limestone, Kaolin, Clay, Potash, Iron-Ore, Natural Salt, Quartz, Magnetite, Diatomite, Trona, Mica, Silica Sand, Gypsum, Granite Chips, Flutters Earth and Uranium, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

With this recent appointment, the state government is proactively harnessing the potential of these natural resources and leveraging them for the benefit of the state’s economy and development.

The Borno State Mining Agency, under the leadership of the newly appointed DG, will play a pivotal role in strategically utilising and managing the abundant mineral resources present in the state, contributing significantly to the economic growth and overall development of Borno State.

In conclusion, the appointment of Malam Aminu Chamalwa as the Director-General of BOSMA reflects the commitment of the Borno State government towards maximising the potential of its mineral resources for the betterment of the people and the state as a whole.
