– The Jupiter Lithium Project in Kaduna State is set to begin mining, making it Nigeria’s first Tier One lithium and critical minerals mining operation.
– Developed by Basin Mining Ltd and Range Mining Ltd, the project has formalized an agreement with the Kaduna State Government to develop Nigeria’s largest lithium deposit spanning 462 square kilometers.
– The projected investment for this project is $2.5bn and it is expected to create an additional 100,000 job opportunities.
– Ambassador Dr Hassan Tukur of Range Mining expressed excitement about the project’s impact on Nigeria, while Managing Director of Kaduna Mining Development Company Ltd, Dr Mohammed Nura Sanu Usaini, emphasized local empowerment and environmental sustainability.
– Dr Stephen Davis, director of Range’s parent company, Jupiter Lithium Ltd, highlighted the employment opportunities from building concentrator plants on the mine site and the company’s commitment to engaging with local communities.
– Range’s operations manager, Mr. Lekan Olaniyan, described the significant benefits for safety and the environment from building the concentrator plants, reducing the quantity of material transported away from the minesite and allowing for reuse in environmental rehabilitation after mining.
– In separate incidents, the police recovered a 3-month-old baby in front of an Anambra school and arrested 96 suspects in a raid of criminal hideouts in the FCT.
