The Niger State chapter of the Federation of Nigeria Mining Host Communities is threatening legal action against African Minerals and Logistics Limited following the collapse of a mining site in Galadima-Kogo, which trapped over 30 labourers, including site manager Alhaji Ishaku Ibrahim.
Despite three weeks having passed since the incident, no victims have been rescued. In a communique issued after an emergency meeting in Minna, the federation stated it would engage relevant authorities to investigate the mining company’s licensing and operations.
Key points from the communique include:
– Collaboration with the Mines Workers Union and the state’s Ministry of Mineral Resources to ascertain the identities of victims.
– Investigation into potential exploitation of local communities by the mining company.
– Legal actions will be sought against the company if found culpable, aiming for compensation for victims and deterrence for other companies operating in Niger State.
The communique was signed by Habibu Wushishi and Mohammed Mohammed, highlighting the community’s resolve to hold the company accountable.
