– Nasarawa State has joined a select group of four Nigerian states earning over one billion naira from solid minerals federal allocations.
– This announcement was made by Engr. Obadiah Simon Nkom, Director General of the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office, on behalf of the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr. Dele Alake, during a visit to Governor Abdullahi Sule in Lafia.
– The Minister praised the state for its substantial progress in solid mineral exploration and acknowledged its business-friendly policies.
– Nasarawa’s selection to host the upcoming 6th Council on Mining meeting was attributed to its proactive governance in mining developments.
– The Mining Council serves as a key platform for stakeholder engagement within the industry, focusing on policy advisory roles.
– Engr. Nkom also addressed the resolution of disputes involving mining companies and local communities, announcing that 3.5 cadastre units have been delineated among the affected parties, with the government securing 1.5 units.
– In response, Governor Sule expressed gratitude for the Ministry’s support, emphasising the importance of collaboration for peaceful mineral exploration.
– He also highlighted the state’s new lithium discovery sites and the necessity of engaging local communities for effective exploration.
– The governor stressed a commitment to transparency in resource management, ensuring local governments benefit from revenue generated from mining activities.
