This operation was led by the Mining Marshals, a specialised unit drawn from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and was executed based on credible intelligence. The suspects faced charges for unlawfully mining minerals such as fluorite, zinc, lead, and tin since 15th December 2021, contributing to substantial revenue losses due to their failure to regularise their operations despite warnings. The government remains resolute in its efforts to combat illegal mining, with over 200 arrests made and about 140 prosecutions ongoing across the nation.
