Senator Plang’s Push for a New University

Senator Plang is really pushing for the establishment of the Federal University of Mining and Geosciences in Jos, Plateau State. He’s all about repealing the Act that set up the Nigerian Institute of Mining and Geosciences to make way for this new university. According to him, the mining industry in Nigeria is super important, especially as the country is trying to move away from relying too much on crude oil. But here’s the thing, illegal mining is a big problem, and there’s a lack of knowledge and info about geosciences and mining, which is causing a loss of loads of money to the government.

So, Senator Plang is leading the charge to scrap the old Act and set up the new university. He reckons this move will help Nigeria’s mining sector become a key player in the country’s economy, beyond just exporting crude oil. He’s all about building up the skills and knowledge needed for the mining sector, and he wants the Federal Ministry of Mining and Steel Development to oversee the new university.

If this university gets the green light, it’s going to be all about digging deep into mineral exploration and exploitation, and teaching Nigerians all about mining resource management, geosciences, and engineering. Senator Plang knows that setting up a new university might seem like a big cost, but he’s convinced that the benefits will be huge for Nigeria.

He’s also pointing out that Nigeria doesn’t have a university focused on mineral research, even though the country is loaded with mineral resources. He’s all about the idea that minerals and technology go hand in hand, and it’s crucial for Nigeria to really get into the nitty-gritty of its mineral wealth.

Senator Plang is really fired up about this, and he’s urging the Senate to get behind the bill. He’s convinced that this university could turn Nigeria’s resources into major assets and create a bunch of job opportunities in the mining and extractive industries.
