? President Bola Tinubu is off to Germany for a big conference called the G20 Compact with Africa (CwA) Conference. It’s all happening on November 20, 2023, and it’s hosted by the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. And get this, he’s not going alone! He’ll be joining other big shots like Heads of State and Governments of CwA member countries, bilateral partners, and Heads of International Organizations. They’re all going to talk about boosting investments in cool stuff like energy, trade, infrastructure, and new technologies. Sounds pretty important, right?
The word on the street is that President Tinubu is all about that foreign direct investment in Nigeria. So, he’s taking the lead and heading to Germany with a whole delegation to participate in the investment summit. It’s all part of his plan to keep the momentum going and make sure Nigeria gets its fair share of the investment pie.
And get this, it’s not just any conference. It’s happening alongside the Fourth G20 Investment Summit, and it’s a big deal. The German government and German business associations are co-hosting it, so you know it’s going to be major.
But here’s the kicker – this visit is all about giving back. Remember when the German Chancellor visited Nigeria? Well, now it’s payback time. President Tinubu is making sure to return the favour by honouring the invitation to Germany. It’s all about that diplomatic reciprocity, you know?
And it’s not just a casual visit. President Tinubu means business. He’s following up on some serious meetings with high-ranking representatives from German business organizations. They were part of the official delegation of the German Chancellor to Nigeria, and now it’s time to seal the deal.
In fact, President Tinubu has been talking the talk and walking the walk. When he met Chancellor Scholz in October, he made it clear that Nigeria needs more German companies to invest in the Nigerian market. He’s eyeing sectors like transportation, mining, and energy, and he’s not taking no for an answer. After all, Nigeria is Germany’s second-largest trading partner in Africa, so it’s a win-win situation.
And it’s not just about talk. Nigeria and Germany have been making moves. The bilateral trade volume between the two countries increased from two to three billion Euros between 2021 and 2022. That’s some serious growth!
But President Tinubu isn’t going solo. He’s bringing a squad with him. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar; the Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Wale Edun; the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite; and the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu are all part of the crew.
So, mark your calendars because President Tinubu will be back in town after the conference. But for now, he’s off to Germany to make some big moves for Nigeria. Let’s wish him luck!
