Leadership: A Call to Responsibility

The concept of leadership is intrinsically linked to the concept of responsibility. It demands clarity of mind, unwavering discipline, a multitude of abilities, and a daring spirit. Leadership requires diligence and conscientiousness in the management of public trust. Beyond good intentions, it necessitates setting a personal example as a guiding principle.

The current Tinubu administration serves as a prime example of bold leadership, demonstrating how a clear vision can manifest into tangible results. It is imperative for leadership to provide a clear direction out of chaos and uncertainty. The administration has been proactive, laying the foundation for its vision long before officially assuming office.

Clear Vision and Purposeful Government
The administration has demonstrated purpose and meticulousness in the execution of government affairs. It has shown seriousness and efficiency in managing governmental responsibilities. There has been a keen focus on addressing the critical needs of citizens, recognizing the gravity of the challenges and the urgency of the current situation.
For example, the Nigeria Immigration Service expedited the clearance of 204,332 outstanding passports within a few weeks, thanks to the efforts of the Ministry of Interior. This has allowed Nigerians, including those living abroad, to apply for new passports, undergo capturing, and receive their documents in record time. Additionally, the ministry has embarked on prison decongestion efforts, resulting in the release of over 4,000 inmates who were unable to pay fines. While there is more work to be done, there is definite progress.

Advancements in the Mining Sector
The mining sector is experiencing notable developments and progress. Previously mired in controversies over illegal mining activities and insecurity, the sector is undergoing operational adjustments, improved performance, and increased investment interests. The Ministry of Solid Minerals recently introduced revised guidelines for Community Development Agreements (CDA) to foster a conducive environment for mining. Furthermore, the Mining Cadastral Office initiated a revocation process for 2,213 titles, including exploration titles, small-scale mining licenses, quarry licenses, and mining leases. Following a 30-day notice period that expired on November 10, only 580 title holders settled their debts, leading to the recommendation to revoke 1,633 mineral titles. This signals a departure from the norm in the sector.

A Culture of Transparency and Integrity
Transparency is a crucial characteristic of leadership. Building and maintaining the people’s trust necessitates transparency and honesty. The administration is committed to upholding these principles. There is a commitment to honest communication without masking the truth or resorting to propaganda. This integrity is evident in handling issues related to labor strikes, petrol subsidy removal, and the economy.
Recently, the federal government announced the suspension of the automatic deduction of 40 percent from the internally generated revenues of federal universities, in response to concerns from citizens and stakeholders. This decision reflects a keen understanding of the current challenges faced by the nation’s universities.

A New Approach to Leadership
Nigerians are at the forefront of this new spirit of leadership. They are the central focus and essential contributors to decision-making. This approach is defined by service to Nigeria, characterized by determination, compassion, foresight, integrity, and leading by example.

In conclusion, the Tinubu administration’s approach to leadership reflects a commitment to steering Nigeria towards a brighter future. Through proactive governance, transparent communication, and a focus on citizen welfare, the administration is setting a new standard for leadership in the country. With a resolute focus on turning possibilities into realities, this leadership provides a beacon of hope for the nation.
