Katsina Governor Raises Concern Over School Banditry
Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has expressed concern regarding the perilous situation in Katsina schools due to banditry, resulting in the closure of numerous educational institutions.
During the 7th and 8th combined convocation ceremony of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma, Katsina State, Governor Radda underscored the importance of security in fully realizing the potential of education. He also highlighted the disturbing trend of schools being utilized as hideouts for bandits.
In response to combatting insecurity, the Katsina State Community Watch Corps has been established with the aim of fostering a safe environment for the youth to pursue their education without fear.
Governor Radda encouraged the graduating students to view their education as a means for advancing their community and country. He urged them to embrace lifelong learning and adaptability while utilizing their knowledge and skills to contribute positively to the development of Katsina State and Nigeria as a whole.
The Governor also reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to education and outlined the measures taken to enhance the educational system in Katsina State. President Bola Tinubu reiterated the government’s dedication to combatting terrorism, specifically in the North-West region, and assured the public that security is a collective responsibility.
His Majesty King Jaja of Opobo Dandeson Douglas Jaja advised the graduating students to pursue entrepreneurship and become employers of labour, rather than seeking conventional employment opportunities. He encouraged them to take advantage of the numerous opportunities offered by the Federal Government to build successful careers.
In the combined convocation ceremony, a total of 4,365 undergraduate students graduated from the University, including 112 recipients of first-class honours. Honorary degrees were conferred upon distinguished individuals, including former governor of Katsina State Ibrahim Shema, the Emir of Daura, HRH Umar Faruq, and the Emir of Bichi, Nasiru Bayero, in recognition of their achievements and contributions.
Ibrahim Shema, one of the award recipients, acknowledged the challenges presented by the current state of the nation and urged others to utilize their expertise in overcoming the prevailing challenges in Nigeria.
The ceremony served to underscore the commitment of both the government and educational institutions, highlighting the paramount importance of security and the necessity of collective efforts in combatting insecurity and supporting the overall development of the nation.
