The Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI) has teamed up with international communities to promote transparency in the oil, gas, and mining sectors. During a meeting with NEITI’s Executive Secretary, Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, prominent diplomatic missions in Nigeria expressed their support and willingness to strengthen NEITI’s commitment to technical assistance, governance reforms, and involvement in the country’s extractive industries. The ambassadors of Belgium, Canada, and Australia praised NEITI’s reports and activities in the sector, commending Nigeria’s dedication to implementing the global Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). They pledged their countries’ support and collaboration with NEITI in various areas such as capacity building, information sharing, and providing technical support. NEITI’s Executive Secretary reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to overcoming challenges and working with relevant ministries to bring transparency and groundbreaking reforms to the solid minerals sector. NEITI will prioritize the sector, which currently contributes less than 1% to the country’s GDP.
