The House of Representatives is really concerned about the Nigeria-Cameroon refugee crisis, banditry, and environmental pollution caused by gold mining in Benue State. They want immediate action to tackle these issues. The National Security Adviser and other security agencies have been asked to review the security situation in the region and take urgent steps to restore peace. The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons has also been directed to look into the refugee situation and find a solution. The motion was moved by Rep. Terseer Ugbor, who highlighted the violent attacks and clashes between communities in Kwande Local Government Area. He also mentioned the Cameroonian Anglophone crisis, which has led to a refugee crisis at the Nigerian-Cameroon border. The discovery of precious minerals like gold and lithium has worsened the situation, with illegal miners causing security unrest and environmental pollution. If this continues, Benue State could become a hotspot for banditry. The House has called for the establishment of an international border post to enhance trade between Nigeria and Cameroon. Let’s hope these urgent measures bring some relief to the affected communities!
